Vintage Floral Cat Drop Earrings | Cloisonné on Sterling Silver
A gorgeous example of cloisonné work, and truly one of our favourite vintage jewellery lots to date.
The quality of the craft in these earrings is quite wonderful, with intricate hand-painted enamel in fine braided silver wire cloisons set on a base of sterling silver. The bright red, white, gold, and green detailing set against a bed of deep black is elegant and joyful all at once, and the delicate swirl motif and the fine depiction of the cat’s paws and ears are an indication of the care and attention to detail that has gone in to the crafting of this jewellery.
We believe these to date to the late twentieth century but we have never seen another pair that is even remotely similar, so this rare and beautiful set of earrings is sure to catch eyes and draw admiring (and perhaps slightly jealous!) comments.
Each earring measures approximately 1.8cm x 1.8cm, and is comfortably light at around 2 grams in weight.
Presented in a gift box.
Condition Report: In excellent vintage condition. We can see no damage or marking at all to the enamel work. The silver has been cleaned and polished by us and is in fine condition, but please remember that as a soft metal silver is always likely to show slight marks and scratches from handling, even when brand new.
Material: Sterling silver with enamel decoration
Weight: Approximately 4g (combined weight of both earrings)
Marks: 925 purity mark to rear of both earrings
