Description
Malaysian Cat & Ball Wedge Doorstop | Sarawakian Hardwood
This late twentieth century hand-carved wedge comes from the remarkable city of Kuching, capital of Malaysian Borneo and also known as ‘Cat City’ (see our blog post on Cat City here). This is a solid and nicely detailed piece carved from local Sarawakian hardwood, suitable as both a display item and a very functional and attractive doorstop.
Approximately 20cm long and 3.8cm wide, with a height of 6.5cm from base to the tip of the cat’s ears.
Condition Report: In excellent condition, and appears to have been kept as a collector’s piece and never actually used as a doorstop. Tiny (about 1mm round) flaw in the varnish near the thin end of the wedge, most likely from a bubble or tiny piece of grit during the application of the varnish after carving.
